Cost of Guiding

Guiding is a place where girls and young women can challenge themselves, put their ideas into action, take part in an amazing range of activities, and gain the skills to confidently navigate their world. They do this all in a safe and supportive environment that welcomes every girl and encourages her to be everything she wants to be.

What are the costs involved in Guiding?

Provincial membership fees

The membership fee helps to make Guiding possible for your daughter/ward. It helps support the development of cutting-edge girl programming, screening and training our volunteers who deliver the programs, insurance coverage for activities, and fees for renting meeting spaces. To see how much your daughter/ward’s membership fee will be, find a group near you.

Uniform

Girls wear their uniforms to weekly meetings and to represent their group in community events. Uniforms are typically purchased through our online Guiding store.

Other Costs

There may also be other fees associated with activities taking place in your daughter/ward’s group throughout the year such as outings, events with other groups in Guiding, sleepovers or camps. Speak to your daughter/ward’s group leader to learn more about planned activities and related costs.

GGC Membership Fee Subsidy Program

We want every girl to have the chance to be part of Guiding – Girl Guides of Canada is proud to offer a membership fee subsidy program to help making Guiding accessible to more girls. You can apply for financial assistance with the membership fees directly through our girl registration system! (Look for the “Apply for Subsidy” button).

You will need the following information on hand when you apply:

  • The number of family members living in your home, including yourself
  • Your estimated annual total family income (from all sources) before taxes
  • The approximate population size of the community you live (you can use an online resource to help find this information such as Stat Can’s census profile)

You will be asked a few short questions and the system will instantly let you know if you are approved. All approved subsidy amounts will be deducted automatically from your daughter/ward’s membership fee at checkout. You’ll be prompted to pay the remaining balance using Visa, Mastercard, or PayPal to finalize the registration.

Please Note: The membership fee subsidy program currently supports subsidized assistance towards the provincial membership fee only.

Alternative Support with Guiding Costs

There are also a variety of funding providers that may help you access financial support for costs related to your daughter/ward’s participation in Guiding (including additional membership fee support, camp or activity costs, uniform fees, etc.).

Some examples of third-party funding providers would be:

  • Jumpstart
  • ProKids
  • Big Brothers, Big Sisters
  • Local community, youth services, and recreation funds

Note: Third-party providers may vary by community or by province.

If you are receiving financial support for your daughter/ward’s membership fee from a third-party funding provider, please call 1-800-565-8111 or email [email protected] to complete the registration process. Our offices are typically open 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time, Monday to Friday.

Please note that we are not able to hold your space in your selected group until you speak to a Girl Guides representative and your registration is finalized.

Your province may also offer additional financial assistance opportunities with uniform or event costs. You can contact [email protected] to learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions about Subsidy

Do I have to apply for a fee subsidy separately for each daughter/ward I am registering?

No, you’ll only need to apply once per Guiding year! The approved subsidy amount will be applied to each girl on your account, even if your daughter(s)/ward(s) are registered on different days.

Note – Subsidy is only applied to girls before you complete the registration.

What happens if my application for subsidy is not approved, and I still require financial assistance?

If your subsidy application is not approved, you may request a reassessment of your application. A member of our team will contact you to reassess your application.

Note – A reassessment can only be completed before payment. Reassessments may take between 1 to 3 business days to complete.

I was approved for subsidy, but I cannot pay the remaining balance online – what can I do?

If your application for subsidy was approved and you are unable to pay the remainder of the fee online using Visa, Mastercard, or PayPal, you can either request a reassessment of your application directly through your family account or you can contact 1-800-565-8111 for assistance, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time.

Note – we are unable to hold your space in your selected group until you speak to a Girl Guides representative and your registration is finalized.

I don’t need to apply for a subsidy, but I’d like to pay in instalments. What do I need to do?

The girl registration system requests payment of the membership fee in full (or minus any approved subsidy) at the time of checkout. Please call 1-800-565-8111 or email [email protected] for assistance with installment payments.

Note – we are unable to hold your space in your selected group until you speak to a Girl Guides representative and your registration payment schedule is finalized.

I don’t have a credit card or a PayPal account; is there another way to pay the membership fee online?

The girl registration system can only accept payments for the membership fee by Visa, Mastercard, or PayPal. Please call 1-800-565-8111 or email [email protected]es.ca for assistance with your daughter/ward’s registration.

Note – we are unable to hold your space in your selected group until you speak to a Girl Guides representative and your registration method is finalized.
