Did you know that playing a memory game or a hand-to-eye co-coordination game or using Canada's Food Guide to create a meal plan or making and eat a healthy snack at your meeting are all contributing to Active Living?
Healthy living means making positive choices that enhance your personal physical and mental health. GGC recognizes the importance of this and encourages our members to take a more active role in their health.
Through the programs, girls not only learn about Active Living, they actually live it and that helps them can make informed choices about their health.
Looking for help with activities, crafts and games contact your Area Program Adviser or the Provincial Active Living Adviser at ggcns@girlguides.ns.ca

1.Matching the Food to the Food Guide Category (Sparks to Guides)
Print the black and white file and cut the pictures apart. Have the girls match each food picture to the proper category of Canada's food guide. You can label a different wall, or section of a wall, with the name of each food category and have the girls stick them to the wall with tape or putty. You can use a coloured sheet of paper for each category (red, yellow, blue and green) and have them match the pictures to the colours. You could also make two sets of pictures and divide the girls into teams and see who sorts them first.
2. What's a Serving? (Guides to Rangers)
Print a copy of the food guide pictures (either colour or black & white) and cut the pictures apart. Fold the bottom part of each picture, the part that explains how much of each food constitutes a serving, backwards so it can't be seen. You could also cover them with sticky notes to hide the information. Play a "jeopardy" style quiz game so learn about how much food is considered a serving, and how many servings of each type you need for your age. If possible have measuring spoons and cups on hand so everyone can see exactly what is meant by the measurements listed.
